US-Soldaten vor der Glienicker Brücke, 1990(?)

The Glienicke Bridge and the exclave of Klein-GlienickeGuided tour with Palace Manager Andreas Woche, SPSG, in English

During the division of Berlin, the Glienicke Bridge and the Potsdam district of Klein-Glienicke were central meeting points between East  and West. As an exclave on the territory of West Berlin, Klein-Glienicke formed a strictly guarded “special security zone” in the GDR. The eventful history of the Glienicke Bridge is reflected in its frequent name changes, which accompanied the change of political systems. The Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge became the Bridge of Unity and then the Glienicke Bridge. During the Cold War, the bridge earned the nickname “Bridge of Spies” primarily due to the three exchanges of Western and Eastern agents that took place there. This special guided tour sheds light on the exciting history of these two places in the immediate vicinity of Glienicke Palace.
