Schloss Rheinsberg, Sommerappartement des Prinzen Heinrich, Weißlackierte Kammer

Rheinsberg House - Prince Henry‘s Summer ApartmentPrince Henry in private

While the first floor of Rheinsberg House was used for representation and official occasions, Prince Henry created his own personal retreat with his summer apartment on the ground floor.

The rooms of the apartment are accessed via the Garden Hall, which was designed by his brother and previous owner of the palace, Frederick the Great. Henry had the subsequent rooms decorated entirely according to his wishes. Painted grotto rooms and wallpaper decorated with depictions of birds brought the house’s garden to life, while the white-painted chamber and the summer bedroom in the style of early classicism reflected the modern taste of their owner and emphasised Henry’s enthusiasm for new art forms.
