Marble House

To the info page of the venue

On the banks of the lake called Heiliger See, Frederick William II had the New Garden designed as an English landscape park and the Marble House built as a magnificent summer palace. Now fully restored, the Marble House offers an impressive insight into the heyday of Prussian classicism.
The House is richly decorated and furnished with precious materials, including fine fireplaces purchased by Frederick William II in Italy. Particularly noteworthy are the cabinets paneled with precious woods and the Oriental Cabinet, which is reminiscent of the interior of a Turkish tent. Visitors can also admire one of the most important Wedgwood ceramics collections in Germany.
A fascinating place for groups who want to immerse themselves in the world of Prussian classicism.

We provide the following group offer:

  • Marble House (guided tour)

The south wing of the Marble House is now accessible independently and without waiting times – with a new museum presentation that invites for discovery. In multimedia rooms, visitors are given a compact overview of the palace's history. A short introductory film, media stations on the role of Frederick William II and an audio station on his confidante Wilhelmine Enke, who later became Countess Lichtenau, complete the exhibition. Key historical developments such as the French Revolution, the social role of women around 1800 and the third partition of Poland as an expression of Prussian power politics are also covered. The content is available in German, English and Polish. The new concept was made possible with the generous support of the Friends of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens.
