Schönhausen Palace occupies a special place in Berlin’s landscape of historic monuments. As one of the few baroque palaces in the city, it has been repeatedly altered over time but never fundamentally destroyed. Until very recently, it remained an important stage for German history and politics. Nowhere else among Prussian palaces can visitors experience historical layers so closely juxtaposed as in Schönhausen. In the 18th century, Queen Elisabeth Christine, the wife of Frederick the Great, cultivated an elegant courtly life here. During the National Socialist era, the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts used the palace. It served as a storage site for modern artworks that had been confiscated from public collections as part of the “Degenerate Art” campaign and were intended to be sold abroad for foreign currency. After the war, Schönhausen Palace initially served as the official residence of the first president of the GDR and later as a guesthouse for state visits. Once again, it played a historic role as a venue for the “Two Plus Four Talks” leading to German reunification.

The guided tour through the palace offers visitor groups a fascinating glimpse into its eventful 350-year history. Particularly noteworthy are the fully preserved Rococo Hall, the elegant staircase, and the faithfully reconstructed guest rooms from the GDR era. Beginning May 2026, a new section of the exhibition will present the palace as a site of National Socialist art policy. A selection of modern artworks will illustrate the diverse artistic and personal fates involved in the confiscation and exploitation campaign.

We offer a fixed group price that depends on a maximum number of participants. This price includes entry to the respective palace for the group as well as, depending on availability, a personal guided tour, an audio guide tour, or the use of an app via a personal technical device (e.g., smartphone).

If the number of participants exceeds the maximum limit for the program, the group will be divided. Each subgroup will be allocated a specific entry time, and the group price will be calculated accordingly per subgroup. For some palaces, an additional fee is offered for the second entry time slot, up to a certain number of persons. This fee cannot be booked separately.

There is no minimum number of participants for a group booking. Programs can be offered in various languages, including personal tours in German and English, as well as the use of audio guides and tours in the SANSSOUCI app with additional language versions. Further information about the tours and language versions can be found in the current group price list.

If groups are accompanied by a licensed tour guide from the SPSG, a 10% discount is granted on the group package price. This discount does not apply to group bookings with an audio guide. Special openings for groups are possible upon request outside the regular opening hours of the palaces. The price for a special opening consists of the group price, a special opening fee, and, if applicable, additional personnel costs.

All information is subject to availability and changes. Group prices are only valid in conjunction with the General Terms and Conditions for Groups of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg. All prices mentioned are exempt from VAT according to § 4 No. 20a UStG.
