 LUISE. THE QUEEN'S ISLAND WORLD.

Ausstellung vom 1. May 2010 bis 31. October 2010

Peacock Island
Park buildings and the dairy

Opening Hours, Admission, Group Reservations, How to get there

Michael Lukas: PARKETT Queen Luise (1776–1810) is the most popular woman in Prussian history and one of the most outstanding individuals in the Hohenzollern dynasty. To mark the 200th anniversary of Queen Luise's death in 2010, the Stiftung Preußische Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG) is presenting three exhibitions at historical locations where she lived and made an impact.

The romantic Peacock Island, situated in the Havel River, was regarded by the queen and her family as one of their favorite locations to enjoy life in nature. The island is providing the setting for an innovative exhibition project in this year dedicated to Luise. For the first time, the SPSG is presenting a connection between international contemporary art and the established synthesis of the arts on Peacock Island.

Postitions of contemporary art

Robert Stieve: EICHELN, Foto: Peter Adamik Six contemporary artists examine the landscape of the island and the life of the queen. Through their works they trace Luise's desires, integrate the atmosphere of the location and open a new view onto the varied history of the island and the Prussian royal house.

LUISE. DIE INSELWELT DER KÖNIGIN. Positionen zeitgenössischer Kunst Altogether 18 sites of artistic intervention can be discovered across the entire island. The artists in the exhibition have designed their works in dialogue with the featured landscape and island architecture: Sylvie Bussières (CAN) "En Passant," Christian Engelmann (GER) "Max. One Minute," Joan Fontcuberta (ESP) "The Institute of Cryptornithology," Michael Lukas (GER) "Parquet," Robert Stieve (GER) "Acorns," and Martin Weimar (GER) "Army of Hydrangeas."

In addition, the installation "Blind Pavilion" (2003) by Olafur Eliasson (DEN) can be found on the northeastern shore of the island for the duration of the 2010 season.
