Risk and Fame
Frederick brought Prussia to the brink of decline in the Seven Years' War. The king's willingness to take risks revealed itself as one of his essential traits. In the end, however, he became cautious, wishing only to survive the war – and he succeeded. The king expressed his triumph through the construction of the New Palace. It is his legacy and the first exhibit of the exhibition.

Developmental Politics
Frederick's maxim of religious tolerance and his interest in the sciences and the arts made him into the paragon of an enlightened ruler. His efforts served the development of the economic power and the culture of his country. Frederick instinctively knew how to skillfully stage this for his reputation and fame.

Even in the arts Frederick wanted to attain the highest European standards. Whether for clocks or porcelain, silk or furniture, music or dance – Frederick brought well-known artists to Prussia. The Neues Palais and its theater are the impressive results of these efforts.

Flowering
The garden surrounding the New Palace was intended to be a realm of peace and harmony, and a stage for the king's self-expression. Ten subdivisions provide insights into how the park appeared during Frederick's times.
Body and Soul
Frederick's traumatic youth characterized his relationship to himself, to his fellow man and particularly to the heir to the throne. In his suite, visitors will learn more about Frederick's unconventional behavior – and moreover, what Europe thought about his sexuality, his relationship to his wife and his successor.

The exhibition FRIEDERISIKO is divided into a total of twelve themes, of which eleven will be introduced at the Neues Palais. The twelfth theme is Frederick's garden, which is explained at ten sites in Sanssouci Park. An emblem is assigned to every theme. These emblems denoted in the exhibition areas will give you a first impression of the distribution of the themes in the palace.
At the entrance you'll receive an orientation booklet so that you can discover the world of Frederick the Great according to your own preferences and interests!
