The Flatow Tower, designed by Johann Heinrich Strack, was built between 1853 and 1856 and modelled on the medieval tower of the Eschenheimer Gate in Frankfurt am Main. In this way William I continued the Potsdam building tradition of erecting buildings with a view at lofty locations.
